A federal judge ruled that the Liberal government's use of the Emergencies Act to suppress the "Freedom Convoy" protests two years ago was unreasonable. Federal Court Justice Richard Mosley stated that invoking the act led to the infringement of constitutional rights, emphasizing concerns over justification, transparency, and intelligibility. Despite the ruling, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland maintains that invoking the Emergencies Act in early 2022 was "the necessary thing to do."
